Rates are highly competitive, with a free, same-day* estimate provided.
- Book indexes are charged $2.50 to $10.00 per page depending on the subject matter,
the physical layout and size of the book, and the ratio of illustrations to text.
For example, the rate might be $2.50 per page for simple software manuals, compared to $5.00 per page for the average scholarly book. Scholarly texts typically average $3.75 to $6.50 per page.
The primary determining factor is the density of the text: how many indexable terms are on each page of text. - Indexable pages generally include the following:
- The main text, including the introduction
- Footnotes or endnotes with substantive information
- Prefaces
- Appendices
- Front matter other than prefaces or introductions and bibliographies are sometimes indexed.
- All other indexing services, such as creation of periodical, archival collection, or audio recording indexes, are charged per hour or by the project.
- Project estimates are valid for the specified time period.
- Rush jobs (more than 150 pages per week) may be assessed an additional fee.
- *A sample of the final page proofs will be required for estimating your fee.
- A letter of agreement will cover the project scope, goals, and specifications, rate/fee, deadlines, submission format of final product, and any other related terms and conditions.
- Work is begun when the final page proofs/camera-ready copy and other project-related materials have been received by Ascending Paths.
